Blind and seen: what changes when you look at your cards

Understand the two table states, read the amount beside a control and practise a status change without placing a stake.

Two labels for what you know

Blind means the player has not viewed their cards; seen means they have. They describe information available to that player, not a different hand ranking. Looking at a hand does not improve the cards in it. It changes what you know before deciding what to do next.

Read the amount again after the status changes

A table may use different required amounts for blind and seen players. Check its stated rule instead of carrying an earlier number forward. Our example worksheet uses 4 counters before a status change and 8 afterwards purely to demonstrate reading two values. It is not a confirmed rule, minimum amount or currency in the linked app.

Three observations to keep separate
  1. Cards not viewed
  2. View cards
  3. Recheck state & amount

Try a paper walkthrough

Put three cards face down and write “blind” on a piece of paper. Beside it, leave a box for the displayed amount. Turn the cards over, change the label to “seen”, and fill in a second amount from an agreed practice rule. Explain which information changed. No money, paid chips or app account is needed for this exercise.

Distinguish a reveal from an accepted action

In a digital interface, seeing cards, selecting a control and receiving a confirmation are separate observations. Write the actual label you see rather than guessing from an animation. If a connection drops during the change, read the current screen and recorded status before repeating a press.

Questions to resolve before a live table

Find where the table explains required amounts, available actions and when a status change takes effect. Also check what happens if your turn expires. If the rules do not answer a question, the general meaning of blind or seen cannot fill that gap. Leave the action alone until the relevant rule is clear.

Common questions

Does seen mean a stronger hand?

No. It describes having viewed the cards; their category still depends on the cards themselves.

Does this guide verify the APK’s betting rules?

No. It explains terms and a paper exercise. The actual table rules must be checked in the product.
